In times of anxiety or distress, we often fall into negative ways of thinking which describe the ideas we hold about ourselves, other people and the world around us. CBT is a time limited therapy that works to help identify how such thoughts, feelings and behaviours are inter-connected and contribute to the difficulties we experience. Having a strong formulation in place that tells our story, is the first step towards learning to relate to our difficulties in a kind way, which is what CBT wants to assist you with. CBT is a nicely balanced therapy where past and present are both being looked at to empower people to change the things they can, from a place of increased and healthy self-awareness.
There is a great deal of research evidence to show that CBT works effectively in treating depression and anxiety disorders.
The number of CBT sessions you need depends on the difficulties you are experiencing. Often this will be between 6 and 20 weekly sessions lasting about 50-60 minutes each. In the first couple of sessions, we will discuss your specific difficulties and set goals for you to achieve.
